From humble beginnings, my journey unfolded through perseverance and dedication. Starting at the age of 12, I worked in my family's small business, which initially started off doing clean-up jobs for customers who were disposing of their stuff. During these clean-up jobs, my father had the foresight to collect furniture that people were getting rid of. He rented a garage that we utilized to store the furniture until we had enough to open a used furniture store. One pickup truck turned into three 24-26 feet moving trucks, and the one used furniture store we started with grew into two large new furniture stores. I handled moving jobs and furniture delivery until I was 21. This early experience taught me the value of hard work, but it also introduced me to the challenge of balancing numerous responsibilities.
Transitioning into corporate life, I joined The New York Times as a Telemarketer. Here, I faced significant struggles with time management. Juggling multiple projects and meeting tight deadlines often left me overwhelmed and frustrated. I found myself working late hours, constantly battling a growing pile of unfinished tasks, and feeling stuck in my career.
Determined to change my situation, I embarked on a journey of self-improvement. I delved into the principles of Project Management and Time Management, learning how to prioritize tasks, set realistic goals, and manage my time more effectively. This transformation didn't happen overnight; it was a gradual process filled with trial and error. But slowly, I began to see results. My productivity increased, I completed projects on time, and my confidence grew. Over time, I soared through the ranks to become a Director.
However, after 20+ years at The New York Times, I faced another significant challenge when I was laid off due to outsourcing. This setback could have been a major blow, but equipped with my newfound skills, I viewed it as an opportunity. I explored entrepreneurship while seeking other corporate opportunities, eventually accepting a Management role at Tiffany & Co. Contact Center. I spent nine years there until mutually separating from Tiffany in March 2024.
Simultaneously, in 2018, I ventured into real estate investment. Balancing portfolio growth and corporate responsibilities was no easy feat, but by applying my honed Time Management and Project Management skills, I managed to thrive. I strategically leveraged my time and resources to cultivate a thriving $1.2 million out-of-state real estate portfolio comprising multiple properties, all while maintaining a demanding career at Tiffany & Co.
On a personal note, I am a husband to my high-school sweetheart, a father to three beautiful young ladies aged 30, 28, and 20, and a grandfather to four energetic boys. Balancing family life with professional ambitions was yet another layer of complexity, but it also provided me with invaluable lessons in time management and prioritization.
